Derrick Myers Obituary

The soul of Derrick Wayne Myers soared free on June 24, 2021 at the age of 50.

Beloved son of Lawrence and Barbara Jean Myers was born on May 5, 1971 in Washington, D.C. Derrick grew up in the Eastgate neighborhood in SE Washington, DC. He was affectionately known as “Hay Hay”. Derrick graduated from Eastern Senior High School in 1991.

Derrick had a career as a Screening Removal Operator with the DC Water and Sewer Authority. He was known for his exuberance and enjoyed being around family and friends.

Derrick had a very loving soul. He always had a passion for dogs and dreamed of being a Veterinarian. Derrick loved dancing, music, old school cars, and sports. Derrick was a very devoted Redskins fan.

Derrick enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He found joy in being a grandfather and embraced his Grandkids calling him “Pop Pop.” He loved attending social and family gatherings, especially Eastgate reunions. Derrick touched many lives with his passion for life and made everybody feel welcomed like family.

Derrick was the “life of the party”. He was always ready to celebrate. At every event, he was up on the dance floor living larger than life. He was well known for his funny antics, dressing fly and always rocking a hat.

Derrick was called to rest far too soon for all that knew and loved him. His fun-loving spirit and big heart often reached deep down and touched our souls.

Derrick leaves to rejoice in his loving memory: his mother, Barbara Jean; sister, Wanda Myers; son, Demetrius Venable; daughters, Dhea' Monnyi and Dhea' Sha Myers; grandchildren, Selena, Massiah, Amir and Makai, nephew, Keon Coleman; nieces, Tamika and Keviar Myers, special great-nephews, Niko Myers and Rico Myers Jr.; special great niece, London Poston; aunts and uncles Shirley Thomas, Lillie Mae and Paul Browne, Leon and Pearl Myers, Ronald and Darlene Myers, Robert and Queen Myers, Carrie Myers, Edna Myers, Girard and Edith Myers, Alice Myers, Eugene “Genie Boy" Mayfield, Larry and Maggie Mayfield of St Bernadine, California, Shirley Carroll, Evelyn and Roger Watson, and a host of cousins, relatives, friends and co-workers. He will always be remembered by his longtime special friend, Catherine Jones and extended aunt, Gwendolyn “Nana” Bell.

His passing is preceded by his father, Lawrence L. Myers; brother, Lawrence L. Myers Jr; nephew, Rico Myers and grandparents, Ralph and Constance Myers.
